MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS OF TURKMENISTAN
In 1927 in the “State museum of local lore” of Turkmenistan has opened the department of fine arts. On the 29-th of September 1939 was established created the independent museum of "Fine arts". The base of storehouse of a museum has been installed in 1927 by the works of Russian artist A.A.Karelin. Since the first days, this museum starts to develop national arts and in 1942 the collection of museum values was replenished with carpets, embroidery, the jewellery taken from the State association of carpet weaving and Museum of local lore, and then the various exhibits collected from the population of Turkmenistan.
In a museum began to arrive works of the artists, who have got education in“Stepped-up School of Art of the Orient”, which was established in Turkmenistan in 1920. In the department of foreign art are presented works of the West European and Russian artists, and applied art of the Orient as well, that is, India, Japan and China. Museum has also organized foreign guest exhibitions.
On the 5-th of January 1998, after the “Museum of the Fine arts of Turkmenistan” has stopped the activity as an independent museum, museum values were transferred in newly opened “National museum of Turkmenistan”. Since this time,and up to 2005 they were exhibited and stored in department of fine arts of “National museum”. On the 17-th of February 2005 with going into operation of the new building of the “Museum of Fine arts”, values have been officially transferred in a new museum.
